Face Brushes

MAC 190 - Foundation Brush

For applying liquid or cream foundation to the face. The bristles of this brush are very smooth and have a somewhat silky feel to them. I use this to apply liquid foundation or cream foundations and I find that it is good for the application of these and for packing on the foundation over those trouble areas. I wouldn’t use this with pressed or loose powders and I prefer to use a different brush to blend the foundation into the skin. This brush is flat and has a rounded tip but doesn’t give you the best results when used in circular motions for blending. It tends to move the foundation around instead of blending it into the skin. It is a good brush but if you prefer to use latex/non-latex sponges to apply your foundation it isn’t a must have brush.

MAC 187 - Duo Fibre Brush

For applying and blending liquid, creams or powders. The brush’s bristles are very soft. This is my absolute favorite face brush. I cannot do my makeup without it. You can use it to apply liquid and cream foundations thou I prefer the 190 for applying. The 187 grabs and holds product between the bristles which makes the bristles clump together and blending a bit less efficient. If you apply your liquid foundation with this brush you know what I’m refering to. This brush works best when the bristles are clean and soft. It is good for applying powder foundations whereas the 190 is not. You can use this to blend Mineralized Skinfinishes and cream or powder blushes onto your cheeks. Overall this brush is good for blending any product onto the skin and good for applying powder based products. If I had to choose just one face brush it would definitely be this one because I can do a full face using only this brush (i.e., foundation, podwer, blush) and it is versatile as far as what products can be applied with it (i.e., liquid, powder, cream).

MAC 168 - Contour Angled Brush

For applying powder based products. This is a good brush for applying powder blushes to the cheeks and for contouring because the angled part fits easily into the hollows of the face. Aside from the occasional contouring I don’t use this brush often. I don’t consider this a must have brush. However, if you contour / highlight on a daily basis this is a good investment.

MAC 180 - Flat top Buffer Brush

This brush is perfect for buffering products onto the skin or for removing excess powder from the skin. I like to use this after I put on my blush to give it a softer look. I use this to blend my foundation as well. It gives you a more airbrushed look. Overall it is a good brush to have.

MAC 182 - Powder Brush

This is a dome shaped brush. This brush is made of extra soft goat hairs and is best for applying powders. I do not recommend using this brush to apply anything other than powders. I prefer this to a regular powder brush because the short handle allows for a more controlled application.
