| This is a tutorial on how to make MAC pigments (loose powder eyeshadow) into pan eyeshadows. I get a lot of fallout when using pigments and since I apply my foundation/concealer before I do my eye make-up that causes a problem. I can hold a tissue underneath my eye while applying my eye makeup but that gets frustrating. Turning a pigment into a pan eyeshadow is easy and makes using pigments a lot easier as well. |
SUPPLIES
You will need:
Alcohol
A piece of metal wire / bobby pin
26 mm eyeshadow pan / you can find them here
Your pigment of choice
A spoon or spatula
A quarter
An old paif of jeans
Round magnets
| Gather your supplies. I strongly suggest using a newspaper or old rag to cover the area you are working because this can get messy. |
Using your small spoon or spatula scoop a very small amount of pigment from the pigment jar.
CAREFULLY drop the pigment into the pan.
| Take your metal wire / bobby pin and mix the alcohol and the pigment together. Do this is slow swirls because you don’t want any pigment overflowing out of the pan. Repeat filling the pan with pigment and alcohol a few times to fill the pan. |
I am pressing Gold pigment (PRO pigment)which has metal finish. After mixing the pigment and the alcohol you should have something that looks similar to the picture below. |
Pick up your pan, hold it about an inch off of the surface you are working on (a hard flat surface is prefered for this step) and drop it. Continue to do this until you notice a smooth flat texture in your pan.
When your piment has settled smoothly in the pan, place the pan inside of a 4 pan pallete. I prefer to place it inside of a palette instead of setting it on top a heater alone.

If you do you a palette, be sure to place the palette on top of the heater with the top OPEN. Leaving the pan closed with result in the build-up of moisture and your pigment will not dry.
NOTE: I do not have pictures of the next few steps. Allow your pigments to dry overnight. Take an old pair of jeans and put a square of the material, about 3 iches. You can use any old cloth but I prefer jeans becaue of the hatchmarks on the fabric. It will leave your eyeshadow looking store bought =) Next take a quarter and wrap the square of denim or cloth around the quarter. Place the quarter on top of the eyeshadow and press into the pan with all of your strength. Glue a one inch magnet to the back of the pan; they can be found on the previously linked website above. Be sure to label your pigments and enjoy! In the above 4 pan quad I pressed Copperized (Rushmetal Collection) Lark About (Naughty Nauitcals collection) and Gold (PRO) pigments.
